During the ceremony organized by the Cameroon YMCA officials to say goodbye to our guests upon the end of this Y-GLOCAL international seminar, we had the opportunity to meet several of them. We were able to get acquainted and discuss with them on several topics related to our National Movement as well as global view of the YMCAs in the world. We have therefore had the opportunity to exchange with Du Prince Tchakote who is National Treasurer of the Cameroon YMCA.
This is the first time in Cameroon YMCA story, as far as I know, that we host such event
« I was part of the triangle cooperation that was incepted in Copenhagen and Aarhus, Denmark in October 2017. Along with the National President Dr Alain Douglas from Cameroon team and Mike from South Africa YMCA, we’ve set the foundation of this triangular partnership. I am delighted and thank God the Cameroun YMCA were able to host this workshop with the participation of volunteers from our 3 National Movement. I also believe participants have learned a lot, including from our own experience of taking care or young Cameroonians, including on the S2C concept, organization of the International Week of Prayers, civic action, etc. »
Do you have some advice for Cameroonian participants?
« Of course, you know the evolving vision of Cameroon-YMCA is proportional to the size of the challenges that we face. We are a Christian movement and have learned specific ways of serving in our specific church communities. Now we must be particularly fussy on our way of working. Thus, we should struggle to preserve our bone fundamental Christian values. Thankfully, as member of the National committee, we are really taking care of this. We have a close look on Christian values within the YMCA, and we believe all the YMCAs in the world should keep Christian values, what we use to call keeping the letter “C” in the YMCA, while having a positive impact in our society and working towards preserving our environment. »
